1)Why is Aligarh famous for its lock industry?-

Aligarh earned the nickname "Tala Nagri" or Lock City due to its centuries-old tradition of manufacturing high-quality security locks. The city houses thousands of small-scale workshops and large factories, making it the primary hub for lock production and innovation in India.

2) What makes traditional Aligarh locks different from modern electronic locks?

Traditional Aligarh locks rely on heavy-duty brass, iron, and intricate mechanical levers that resist tampering and physical force. Unlike digital locks, they do not require batteries or wiring, making them incredibly durable and reliable in harsh outdoor weather conditions.

4) Are Aligarh locks still made by hand today?

Many premium Aligarh locks, especially brass and antique replicas, are still handcrafted by skilled local artisans using generational techniques. However, factories also use modern automated machinery to mass-produce standardized padlocks and door hardware for global markets.

5) How do I maintain an Aligarh brass lock to prevent jamming?

To keep a mechanical lock operating smoothly, lubricate the keyhole annually with a few drops of graphite powder or light machine oil. Avoid using water or harsh chemicals to clean brass locks, as moisture can cause internal rusting or tarnish the exterior polish.
